Mussels fall to Hammerheads 10-1

JUPITER, Fla. – The Mighty Mussels recorded eight hits Thursday, but the pitching staff struggled for the second straight night in a 10-1 loss to the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

Misael Urbina was the only Mighty Mussel with multiple hits, finishing the game 2-for-5. Keoni Cavaco reached base twice and stole a base, registering the only extra-base hit with a double to left in the third inning.

Jupiter scored in five of its eight offensive innings Thursday, striking for four runs on five hits in the third against Fort Myers starter Johnathan Lavallee (0-1). Lavallee lasted 2.2 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits in total.

The bullpen didn’t fare much better, surrendering a pair of two spots in the fourth and fifth. The Hammerheads pounded out 15 hits, connecting on six doubles. Left fielder Jake Thompson finished 4-for-5 with three doubles and three RBI.

The Mussels will look to even the series at 6:30 p.m. today. RHP Mike Paredes (7-3, 2.70) is set to pitch for Fort Myers, opposed by LHP Justin Fall (5-5, 3.84) of Jupiter. Coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on the Mighty Mussels Baseball Network.
