By Staff | May 12, 2022

FORT MYERS – Mussels’ pitchers Travis Adams, Malik Barrington, Reggie Grace Jr. and Matthew Swain combined for a three-hit shutout Wednesday, striking out 13 while surging Fort Myers to a 3-0 win at Hammond Stadium.

Through the first two games of the series, the Mussels’ (16-10) pitching staff has struck out 27 batters while only allowing three hits over 18 innings of work.

After being no-hit through two innings, the Mussels’ bats came to life in the bottom of the third after Kala’I Rosario drew a walk. Then Daniel Ozoria singled on a chopper to the shortstop. With two men on, Jake Rucker scored Rosario with a single through the left side of the infield to make it 1-0. Ozoria was thrown out trying to advance to third on the throw. Emmanuel Rodriguez then singled to right center, scoring Rucker to make the score 2-0.

Still up by that margin in the fourth, Mikey Perez, Rosario and Dylan Neuse all stroked singles to the opposite field, extended the lead to 3-0.

Eight of the nine Mussels had base hits in the game.

Palm Beach (11-18) was unable to score a run against the starter Adams (2-0), who scattered two hits and two walks over five shutout innings. Barrington fanned five over two innings of relief before Grace Jr. and Swain spun quick and scoreless innings.

The Mussels will turn to Pierson Ohl (1-1, 5.82) at 7 p.m. today. The Cardinals will have Carlos Guarate (0-2, 5.56) on the mound. Coverage will begin at 6:45 p.m. on the Mussels Baseball Network.
