America’s Boating Club Cape Coral sets May schedule of courses, seminars

America’s Boating Club Cape Coral, doing business as the Cape Coral Sail and Power Squadron, had announced its course and seminar schedule for the month of May.

All of these course and seminars are open to the general public.

America’s Boating Course

This course is approved by the state of Florida and the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators for boaters who wish to earn their State of Florida Boater Education I.D. Card.

The state of Florida requires anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, to take this course to operate a boat in the state.

With over 50,000 registered recreational vessels in Lee County, now is a good time to get familiar with safe boating practices and the rules and regulations governing boating in the state of Florida.

The May class starts on the 9th and meets for six evening; 9th, 11th, 16th, 18th, 23rd and 25th. Class runs from 7-9 each evening.

If the May class is not convenient, the course is offered nine times each year check our calendar for the next available class.

Boat Handling For

This course is for boaters looking to gain confidence in docking, underway, anchoring and other seamanship skills. Boat Handling is a series of six seminars each aimed at specific boating topics. Take all six or the ones that interest you the most.

The May series of seminars starts on the 4th and continues for six successive Wednesday evenings from 7-9. The course is open to boaters of all types.

Introduction to Charting

Whether you’re planning a cruise, going fishing or traveling to a local marina, knowing how to read and use nautical charts is essential to safe boating.

Charts include must-have information, including bottom contours, hazards and aids to navigation, to help you travel safely.

This seminar will be held May 26 at 7 p.m.

Using VHF & VHF/DSC Marine Radio

Get familiar with your boat’s VHF marine radio. Learn you how to use a VHF radio like a pro, including the digital selective calling rescue feature. You’ll also get tips on purchasing and installing VHF to get the most out of your investment. This seminar will be held May 31 at 7 p.m.

America’s Boating Club Cape Coral has been a Cape Coral institution since 1964 and has been helping boaters improve their boat handling skills since then.
