Voting begins for March Athlete of the Month

Eight local student athletes eligible for Cape Coral Breeze honor

Voting for the Cape Coral Breeze Athlete of the Month for March is now open.

There were countless top performances from student-athletes in the area and now it’s up to readers to decide who will earn top honors for the month.

Nominees for March include:

• Jaden Harrah, Island Coast, Wrestling: Harrah took home the FHSAA District 1 Region 3 Championship at 138 pounds.

• Gloria Quintanilla, Mariner, Soccer: Quintanilla assisted on the first and scored the second goal in the Tritons’ 2-0 victory over Naples in the FHSAA 5A girls soccer State Championship match, helping secure the first state title for a Mariner girls team in school history.

• Chris Minto, Mariner, Wrestling: Minto collected his second consecutive FHSAA Wrestling State Championship (2A) and completed an undefeated season (55-0) in the 138-pound weight class. Last year, Minto was the state champ at 120-pounds.

• Maximus Brady, Mariner, Wrestling: Brady became the first freshman at Mariner to win a FHSAA Wrestling State Championship as he took home the 2A title at 113-pounds. Brady finished the year with a record of 54-2.

• David Parada, Mariner, Weightlifting: Parada took home the Lee County Athletic Conference Championship in both traditional and snatch weightlifting in the 238-pound division and will compete in districts.

• Noel Davis, North Fort Myers, Track & Field: Davis finished first in the high jump, 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles at the 8th Annual Loretta Purish Invitational at North Fort Myers.

• Keon Anderson, Island Coast, Track & Field: Anderson was tops in both the shot put and discus in the South Fort Myers Wolfpack Invitational. He had a throw of 15.57 meters in the shot put and sent the discus 41.45 meters to pick up both victories.

• Sebastian Grafmyre, Ida Baker, Baseball: Grafmyre went 3-for-4 with a triple, stole six bases and scored three runs for the Bulldogs in a win over Community School, and scored two runs and stole two bags versus Estero.

Voting for the Cape Coral Breeze March Athlete of the Month runs until Thursday, March 31, at noon.
