Girls Basketball

Mariner 55, Cape Coral 51: Thursday’s showdown of the top teams in the West Zone went to the Tritons (14-4), led by an all-around performance by Ashley Retiz — 20 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Charly Cotigno added 14 points. The Seahawks slipped to 17-4 with the District 5A-11 loss.

Canterbury 41, North Fort Myers 32: The Red Knights face LaBelle on Friday.

Gateway 42, Island Coast 39: Gateway rallied in the fourth quarter to edge the Gators (4-10) behind freshman Thatiyana Holiday’s 24 points.

Palmetto Ridge 56, Ida Baker 36: Mikayla Nieves scored 10 points for the Bulldogs.

Boys Basketball

Ida Baker 63, North Fort Myers 57: Ida Baker (10-5), going a season-best 20-of-29 from the free-throw line, earned a season sweep of North Fort Myers (8-11). The Bulldogs were led by Ishmael Hajmoussa’s 26 points. “Ishmael proved his leadership today,” coach Todd Stowe added. “He overcame early foul trouble, put the team on his back, and willed us to a victory tonight.” Kaiden Crossdale and Kenny Peter added 19 and 12 points respectively. North was led by Quinten Wimbush’s 15 points.

Mariner 79, Immokalee 76: The Tritons stretched their season record to 17-3 with their win at immokalee.

Gateway 81, Island Coast 41: The Eagles (12-3) left the Gators 0-13.

Boys Soccer

Island Coast 5, Gateway 0: Raheim Buckley and Alejandro Llaujer Hernandez had two goals and an assist each to lead the Gators (6-7-1). William Pinto Arriaga scored and made an assist, and Victor Blanco, Juan Limpias, Airam Rivera and Andres Hernandez each had an assist. Pablo Vaquedano had six saves and Calaeb Spriggs two splitting time in goal.

Palmetto Ridge 4, Ida Baker 1: With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 7-9-1.

Mariner 1, North Port 1 (tie): Mathias Arias scored for the Tritons (9-11-3) on an assist by Isaac Sandoval. Jacob Glover (one goal allowed, two saves) and Federico Buitrago (four saves) split duties in goal.

Golden Gate 3, Cape Coral 0: The regular season ended on a sour note for the Seahawks (10-6-4).

Private 8 Tournament

Final

Canterbury 4, Bishop Verot 0: The Vikings (9-5-3) had to settle for second place in the Private 8 Conference tournament.

Girls Soccer

Oasis 6, Charlotte 1: Ariana Suarez had a hat trick and an assist, Jaclynn Mars scored twice and made an assist and Gabby Breese returned to action with a goal. Bella Alvarez, Emma Stevens and Samantha Chitu also contributed with assists. The Sharks (12-7) will be the second seed in next week’s District 3A-10 tournament.

Cape Coral 6, Golden Gate 0: It was the 12th win (12-3-3) of the season for the Seahawks.

Gateway 1, Island Coast 0: Julia Fernandez of Gateway scored the only goal of the match.

Ida Baker 2, Palmetto Ridge 0: Brooke Paul and Kaylee Hernandez had a goal and an assist each, Kalynn Marshall made an assist and Ella Daudbasic had five saves for the Bulldogs (8-7-1).

Mariner 4, North Port 2: Annabelle Bardot posted a hat trick for three of the Tritons’ goals. Also for Mariner (16-2), Gloria Quintanilla had a goal and an assist, Ryleigh Acosta two assists and Kyra Wilson one assist.

Private 8 Tournament

Final

Bishop Verot 5, First Baptist Academy 0: Freshman Alyvia Mueller scored three times to lead the Vikings to the Private 8 Conference championship. Kendal Gargiula had a goal and three assists, Kailyn Haataja a goal and an assist, and Jillian Haataja made an assist. Jane Smith earned the win in goal.
