Football

Mariner 27, LaBelle 0: The Tritons (2-5) have won two of their last three, with a one-point loss in between, after an 0-4 start. Mariner’s defense kept the Cowboys (1-5) in check, and quarterback Justin Lewis accounted for two touchdowns. Lewis passed 11 yards to Kevin Jiminez to open the scoring, and ran 23 yards for a TD to end it. In between, Jacob Manning broke loose on a 62-yard scoring run and Ashton Devitt punched one in from 3 yards out.

Oasis 21, Bishop McLaughlin 18: The Sharks (2-5) earned a much-needed victory, ending a string of five lopsided defeats. Jaxon McArdle Sykes threw two touchdown passes, including the game-winner to Isaiah Lozada in the game’s last two minutes. Sykes, whose other scoring pass was to Tommy Murphy, also ran for a TD. Lozada added a two-point conversion. It was the first win since the season opener for Oasis.

Fort Myers 49, Ida Baker 14: The Bulldogs (3-4) led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, but things went downhill fast after that. A pair of Kaleb Staple 6-yard runs accounted for the Ida Baker touchdowns. For Fort Myers, it was a night of celebration for coach Sammy Sirianni, who earned his 150th victory since succeeding his father Sam at the helm of the Green Wave.

Late Thursday

Football

Island Coast 14, Bonita Springs 12: A shortage of available officials led to a last-second shift of this game at Bonita Springs from Friday to Thursday. The change did the Gators some good as Island Coast picked up its first win of the season. Jake Mueller and Dekari Allen combined on two touchdown passes for Island Coast. The special teams came up big, stopping Bonita Springs on a two-point conversion to provide the margin of victory. Kicker Thomas Forte made both his extra points. The Gators also had Kelton Anderson back, playing well just two weeks after what at first appeared to be a very serious injury.
