FORT MYERS, Fla. – Fort Myers Mighty Mussels’ right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long has been named the Low-A Southeast Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Gipson-Long spun a career-best seven innings July 27 at Clearwater, allowing just one unearned run on three hits. He walked only one batter while striking out nine or more for the fifth time this season.

The Georgia native has worked to a 2.78 ERA over his last 10 starts, completing at least six innings in four of his last five. He currently leads the league in strikeouts (89) and is tied for second in innings pitched (63.1). Gipson-Long leads the Mussels in wins (5), innings, starts (13) and strikeouts.

The Mercer product is the second Mussels pitcher to take home league honors. Louie Varland was named Low-A Southeast Pitcher of the Week on June 14.
