Region 2A-4 final

Sebring 4, Cape Coral 3: The Seahawks ended the year 15-2, seeing an early lead in the regional final evaporate when Sebring swept the two doubles matches. “I feel awful for the kids, because they played their hearts out,” Cape Coral coach Alan Gurgal said. “It was a great match.” The Seahawks will still be represented at the FHSAA tournament. Number one singles player Matt Orozco and the Seahawks doubles team of Orozco and Ty Lendino qualified for state with their performances in last week’s district tournament. The individual players’ portion of the state Class 2A tournament will be held April 28-30 at Sylvan Lake Park in Seminole County.

Softball

Bishop Verot 9, Port Charlotte 1: The 19-3 Vikings got home runs from Aubrey Gatewood, Lillie Layne and Audrey Mills to take down the Pirates. Mills drove in three runs, and Gatewood and Lauren Mills had two RBI each. Vikings’ pitcher Victoria Ash held Port Charlotte to a run on four hits, striking out 11 and not walking a batter.

Ida Baker 11, Evangelical Christian 9: Julianna Nieves homered, tripled, scored three runs and drove in three for the Bulldogs (11-8). Adriana Przespolewski doubled twice and had two RBI, and Alana Hutchinson had two hits, scored three times and drove in two.    

Palmetto Ridge 5, Mariner 3 (10 innings): Destiny Boaz tripled in two runs in the bottom of the 10th to give the win to the Bears. Jamie Jarvis had four hits and drove in a run for Mariner (4-15), with Katie Campbell and Madi Gervais adding an RBI each. Laila Jones had three hits.

Baseball

Oasis 4, Gateway Charter 3: The Sharks (9-8) got two RBI on two hits by Ryan Dewitt, with Joseph Rodriguez and Grayson Medico driving in the other two runs. Carson Monville allowed three runs on four hits in a complete-game pitching win. He struck out six and did not issue a walk.

Canterbury 13, Island Coast 7: The Cougars scored six runs in both the third and fourth innings to down the Gators (18-6). Dylan Masters had three hits and an RBI for Island Coast, and Eddie Boe Rodriguez, Demetrius McCants, Dylan Masters and Aiden Cecil drove in a run apiece.

Community School of Naples 9, Ida Baker 8: Aiden Powers doubled for two RBI, while Walker Holmes, Michael Sands, James Purcell and Joseph Napoli drove in a run each for the Bulldogs (4-21).

Bishop Verot 5, Palmetto Ridge 0: Joe Hobson pitched a four-hit shutout, striking out six. Preston Haben drove in two Vikings (17-7) runs, with Dylan Peck and Joseph De La Nuez adding an RBI each.

Fort Myers 12, Mariner 4: Matt Kolinski doubled for two RBI for the Tritons (13-12), with Mason Blackburn (3-for-3) and Drew Gifford each driving in a run.
