Nine-run fifth inning propels Island Coast baseball team to 15th win

Baseball

Island Coast 12, North Fort Myers 2 (5 innings): A nine-run top of the fifth put the game away for the Gators (15-4). Eddie Boe Rodriguez tripled and had three RBI, AJ Finco was 3-for-4 with two runs driven in and Demetrius McCants doubled and had two RBI. Logan Wilsker hit a two-run homer for the Red Knights (9-10).

Mariner 20, Ida Baker 8 (6 innings): Mason Blackburn had three hits including a triple, scored twice and drove in three runs. Jeff Mackey, Matt Morales and Drew Gifford had two RBI each for the Tritons (12-8). Jake Ellis had three hits and drove in a run, while Matt Moreno and Aiden Powers had two hits and RBI each for the Bulldogs (4-16).

Fort Myers 9, Cape Coral 4: Andrew Friedl drove in two runs for the Seahawks (5-14), while Orion Powell and Matt Drury had an RBI each.

Softball

North Fort Myers 16, Island Coast 0 (3 innings): Winning pitcher Kendall Wylie (8-1) homered, scored twice and drove in two runs for North (15-2). Sydney Morris had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored; Sarah Hamilton drove in two runs on two hits; Taylor Rosciti scored three times and had two RBI, and Kaelyn Sams scored twice. The Gators fell to 2-10.

Ida Baker 20, Mariner 9 (6 innings): The Bulldogs (9-6), down 7-6 after three innings, erupted for 13 runs over the next three to down the Tritons (3-12). Makayla Nieves homered twice and drove in five runs, while Juliana Nieves (3-for-3) doubled, tripled and had four RBI. Zoe DeJournett had a triple and three RBI, and Adriana Przespolewski had two RBI. Mariner’s Katie Campbell was 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and three RBI, with Jamie Jarvis doubling and driving in two runs.

Fort Myers 15, Cape Coral 0 (4 innings): The Seahawks (8-8) were limited to two hits.

Girls lacrosse

Bishop Verot 18, Palmetto Ridge 7: The Vikings (6-7) have won three of their last four heading into Monday’s playoff match with Cape Coral.
