Ash pitches Verot softball team to 14th win

Softball

Bishop Verot 7, Barron Collier 0: Victoria Ash pitched a three-hit shutout as the Vikings (14-2) rolled past BC. Sophia Miller doubled and had two RBI, Lauren had two hits and two RBI, Katelyn Mohs had two hits and two runs scored, and Lillie Layne added an RBI.

North Fort Myers 8, Ida Baker 5: Kendall Wylie drove in three Red Knights (12-2) runs with a triple and a double, and Sydney Morris was 3-for-3 with two RBI. Desirae Devine and Kirsten Gnagey scored two runs each. The Bulldogs (7-6) have lost five in a row after a 7-1 start. Makayla Nieves doubled twice, scored twice and drove in two Baker runs. Emma Fleming, Dominique Parker and Destiny Rodriguez also had RBI for Ida Baker. Wylie got the pitching win with two innings of relief work.

Cape Coral 3, Mariner 0 (8 innings): An extra-innings rally lifted the Seahawks (6-8, 1-1 District 4A-13) past the Tritons (3-8, 0-2). Cape took advantage of two Mariner errors to score two of its three runs in the eighth. Avery Mytnik had an RBI in the inning as well. Mytnik went all eight innings, striking out 14 and holding the Tritons to two hits, both by Jamie Jarvis. Cheyenne Waddell was the hard-luck loser, going the distance with all three runs against her being unearned.

Baseball

Bishop Verot 7, Community School of Naples 0: Dylan Peck was 2-for-4 with three runs knocked in as the Vikings (11-4) blanked CSN. Josiah Velazquez pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out 12. Preston Hall had two hits and two RBI, and Kevin RisCassi had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.

North Fort Myers 13, Ida Baker 7: Gavin Hause homered and doubled for the Red Knights (8-8), driving in three runs. Dominic Rendon tripled and had two RBI, and Logan Divet added two RBI. Logan Smith doubled twice. Josh Fitch earned the pitching win in relief. For Ida Baker (4-12), Matt Moreno doubled twice and had two RBI, Aiden Powers had three hits and an RBI, and Jake Ellis and Steven Thompson had two hits each.

Mariner 11, Cape Coral 4: A six-run sixth inning put this one in the win column for the Tritons (6-8). Anthony Pimentel and Matthew Morales drove in two runs each, and Jeffrey Mackey, Sam Duvall, Dominick Cotoni and John Ohime each drove in a run. Cotoni got the win in relief. Mike Ruse crushed a grand slam over the left-field wall for the Seahawks (5-10).

Fort Myers 8, Island Coast 3: Four Gators’ (12-4, 0-1 District 5A-10) errors contributed to four unearned runs for the Green Wave (10-4, 2-0). Jake Mueller had a two-run homer for Island Coast, and Kevin Rodriguez added an RBI.

Boys tennis

Mariner 5, Ida Baker 2: The Tritons’ next match is Thursday at Estero.
