Baseball

Island Coast 2, Ida Baker 0: Kevin Martinez pitched a one-hit, 12-strikeout shutout for the Gators (6-1), who defeated the Bulldogs (3-5) for the second time this week. AJ Finco had two hits, and Jake Mueller had an RBI for Island Coast. Patrick Asher had Ida Baker’s hit. The same two teams face off Friday at Island Coast.

North Fort Myers 11, Cape Coral 4: The Seahawks (1-4) took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth, but the Red Knights (3-4) responded with 8 runs in the next three innings.  Justin Corbitt was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI, and Logan Wilsker also drove in two North runs.  Dominic Rendon, Dylan Mercer and Blake Busbee added an RBI each. Donald Woelke and Logan Smith combined for 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief. For Cape, Allen Guerrero drove in two runs, while Jeremy Luperon and Wyatt Drury had an RBI each. Cape Coral will try to avoid a three-game sweep Friday evening at North Fort Myers.

North Fort Myers 9, Cape Coral 2: Sydney Morris, Alexis Morris and Taylor Roscitti had two RBI each to lead the Red Knights (4-1, 2-0 District 4A-13). Kirsten Gnagey scored three times. Ashlyn Butterfield had an RBI for the Seahawks (2-4, 0-2). The Red Knights, who have taken the first two from Cape this week, will be the home team Friday for the series finale.

Bishop Verot 8, Cypress Lake 7: Aubrey Mills (2-for-5) drove in two runs and scored two runs, including doubling to drive home Ashley Smallwood with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.  Lauren Mills had four hits in five times at bat, scoring twice for the Vikings (5-0). Victoria Ash struck out 12 Cypress Lake batters.
