Rodriguez pitches perfect game for Island Coast baseball team

Baseball

Island Coast 2, Ida Baker 0: Kevin Rodriguez pitched a perfect game (no runs, no hits, no errors) to get the best of a pitching duel. Rodriguez struck out 15 for the Gators (5-1). Kevin Martinez had an RBI. Ida Baker (3-4) pitcher Jonah Myers was victimized by four errors. He allowed two unearned runs on five hits, striking out nine.

ECS 5, Mariner 1: Jeffrey Mackey had two hits for the Tritons (2-3) and Anthony Pimentel scored the Mariner run. Pitching in relief, Dominic Cotonil allowed one unearned run in 3 2/3 hitless innings.

Oasis 9, East Lee County 0: The Sharks (3-3) snapped a three-game slide behind the arm of Frankie Haba (2-3). He allowed an infield single in the first inning, then didn’t give up another hit over six innings. He struck out eight and walked two. Tony Suarez had a huge night at the plate, driving in five runs on a double and a single. Anthony Catella tripled twice and scored three runs, and Joeseph Rodriguez doubled, singled, scored twice and drove in two runs. Oasis is home Friday against Lemon Bay.

North Fort Myers 4, Cape Coral 2: Logan Wilsker went the distance for the Red Knights (2-4), allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out four and didn’t walk a batter. Logan Smith stole four bases and scored a North run. Gary Kamphouse, Justin Corbitt and Blake Busbee had RBI. The Seahawks (1-3) will be the home team when the two teams meet again Thursday.

Softball

Bishop Verot 11, Mariner 1: The Vikings had 15 hits, led by Victoria Ash. She went 4-for-4, doubled twice, scored three times and scored two runs. She also held the Tritons to one run on five hits, striking out six. Lillie Lane was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Aubrey Gatewood doubled twice, scored twice and drove in a run. Katie Campbell drove in Mariner’s run. Laila Jones had two hits and scored.

North Fort Myers 10, Cape Coral 0 (6 innings): Sydney Morris pitched a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts for the Red Knights (3-1, 1-0 District 4A-13). She also had a double and a single. Kirsten Gnagey had three RBI on a pair of singles, and Taylor Rosciti had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Maddy Tejeda and Sarah Hamilton each scored twice. One of the two Cape Coral (2-3, 0-1), hits was an Abby Garcia triple. The two teams play again Thursday at Cape Coral.

Oasis 12, SW Florida Christian 8: The Sharks (4-2) have won two in a row heading into Wednesday’s game at Community School of Naples.

Boys tennis

Cape Coral 5, Cypress Lake 2: The Seahawks are 6-0 on the season.

Fort Myers 7, Mariner 0: The Tritons will seek to rebound Thursday at home against East Lee County.

Girls tennis

Ida Baker 3, Lehigh 1: Neither team had a full lineup for the match.

Girls lacrosse

Estero 11, Cape Coral 1: The Seahawks are 1-3, 0-1 District 1A-11. Cape faces Cypress Lake on March 9.

Bishop Verot 12, First Baptist Academy 7: The Vikings (3-1) were led by Avery Comisar’s four goals and two assists. Georgiana Malik scored three times and had three assists, Cece RisCassi and Kamden Caccamise each scored twice and Ava Byrd added a goal. Carley Gannon had 16 saves.
