The Fort Myers Metro-McGregor Kiwanis will hold the 13th annual BUG Chase 5K run as a virtual race to take place anytime between Dec. 24, 2020, and Jan. 23, 2021.

The race will benefit the Fort Myers Metro-McGregor Kiwanis Club’s BUG (Bring Up Grades) program and other local club sponsored youth service projects.

Participants can register online at www.ftmyerstrackclub.com. Last year there were over 400 registered runners. Race sponsors include Passarella & Associates and Weinstein Wilkes Financial Group. Sponsorship opportunities are now available starting at the $100 level.

Due to the pandemic, the race this year will be a virtual 5K supervised by the Fort Myers Track Club using RunSignUp and an app called RaceJoy, which allows runners to show GPS progress, receive cheers from family and friends, and submit real-time scored results. Adult registration up to Jan. 23 is $30. Youth (17 and under) registration is $20. Race registration for the first 200 registered includes a short-sleeve performance material commemorative T-shirt and a finisher medal. To guarantee T-shirt size, registrations need to be made by Thursday, Dec. 10.

The Fort Myers Metro-McGregor Kiwanis BUG program is designed to provide recognition to local elementary students who raise their grades to an acceptable range and maintain or continue to raise them from one grading period to the next, and other local club sponsored youth service projects. The Fort Myers Metro-McGregor Kiwanis currently has BUG programs at Littleton Elementary School, Orangewood Elementary School and Rayma C. Page Elementary School.
