Rotary Club of Fort Myers South to present 32nd Annual All Star Classic Dec. 7-9

By Staff | Oct 29, 2020

The Rotary Club of Fort Myers South will present the 32nd Annual All Star Classic, supported by title sponsor Acentria Insurance and Tower Hill Insurance Group, from Dec. 7-9.

This organized countywide game and related activities recognizes players and cheerleaders from Lee County high schools, and a variety of sponsorships are available. Proceeds from the game will benefit the Rotary Club of Fort Myers South Foundation Inc., which supports various local community programs and scholarships for those in need.

The ASC Banquet will take place on Monday, Dec. 7, at The Alliance for The Arts, from 6- 9:30 p.m. to recognize the participating student-athletes and cheerleaders. CDC Guidelines will be followed, and the event will be hosted outside to allow for ample social distancing.

The 32nd annual All Star Classic game will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Fort Myers High School with kickoff at 7 p.m.

“We are honored to showcase the annual All Star Classic, which has been a long-standing tradition that supports our students and our community,” said Suzi Ward, Fort Myers Rotary South Club president. “The students have made so many adjustments this year, and our club worked on a solution to keep this opportunity in place for them when so many other things have changed.”

The event was the first countywide high school football all-star game in Florida when it was founded in 1989. John Carrigan, a Sanibel resident, teacher and referee, wanted to showcase talented players who weren’t getting their due. Since then, it’s grown into a hotbed of top-level prospects, and nearly two dozen players who have taken part in the game have gone on to NFL careers.

The game features the best seniors, chosen by their head coaches, from Lee County public and private high schools. Cheerleaders from each school are also selected to participate.

The contest pits a North team against a South team, and each player and cheerleader receive a customized commemorative ring or charm.

The Rotary Club is seeking donations and sponsors to help cover the cost of the event. Businesses and individuals can sponsor the event, a team, player, or cheerleader.
