With Florida’s governor having lifted restrictions on restaurants and most businesses to allow full re-opening, it looks like the third time may be the charm for the second-annual Knight Out.

Nashville recording artist Garrett Speer will headline the Red Knight Foundation fundraiser for the North Fort Myers High School football program. The event will be Saturday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 10 p.m., at The Ranch in Fort Myers.

This is the third time this event has been scheduled. The previous two attempts were postponed because of the pandemic.

“The first one was a lot of fun and we’re hoping this one will be just as wonderful,” said Yvette Sparks, who helped put the event together as committee chair. “We do a lot for the football team and help the coaches out and do what we can.”

There will be line dancing lessons, a 50/50 raffle, a live and a silent auction and entertainment by Speer, who was raised in Lee County before striking out on his own and moving to Nashville.

“I’ve been writing country music since I was 14 years old. I started to pursue it as a career when I moved to Nashville six years ago,” Speer said, who has been a full-time performer for three years.

Speer had two singles “We Drink Beer” and “If I Can Find a Bar” do well on Spotify, and has been touring the last couple months as the COVID-19 restrictions have lifted.

As far as doing this homecoming show, Speer said it came about when Sparks contacted his agent.

“We were supposed to do this earlier in the year, but I’m glad we’re doing it. Of all the legendary places I’ve played, it’s always been my hometown place. I grew up going to The Ranch and that show is as important as the Grand Ole Opry.”

Karen Crompton, foundation president, said the Red Knight Foundation helps a lot of different elements at the school through booster groups and grants. Being able to get this show together the way it did was great.

“The group that put this together did a great job to put this together. We have people who take care of things and keep our board from getting overwhelmed,” Crompton said. “We have great people able to run things.”

Ages 15 and up are invited. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. VIP tables are available, with a six-top table $600 and a 10-top table for $1,000. Tables include entry tickets, two drink tickets per person and a snack platter for each table.

Food and drink are sold at The Ranch, at 2158 Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers.
