Cape Sail and Power Squadron to resume safe boating classes
America’s Boating Club of Cape Coral, the Cape Coral Sail and Power Squadron, is resuming its safe boating education program. All classes had been canceled since the end of March when the pandemic forced all business to close.
Now as the state of Florida is returning to normal and most business have reopened the Cape Coral Sail and Power Squadron has decided to begin offering its popular safe boating class again to the public.
Starting Monday, Sept. 14, America’s Boating Course — Basic Boating Knowledge will be offered on its normal schedule. America’s Boating Course offers a comprehensive introduction to recreational boating and is a popular course with new residents and new boat owners. This class covers all of the required topics that allow students who pass the final exam to earn a State of Florida Boating Safety Education I.D. Card. Boaters born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, are required by Florida law to have this card in their possession when operating a boat.
State of Florida Boating Safety Education I.D. Card certifies that the holder has successfully pass a safe boating class approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and is recognized by the United States Coast Guard. This card is also recognized in all 50 states most of which now have mandatory boating education requirements.
Due to current guidelines the classroom has been reconfigured and where it once held 60 students it can only accommodate a maximum of 32. For the peace of mind of all students the classroom and public spaces will be cleaned prior to each class. Students will also be asked to wear a face mask while in the building.
Due to the reduced classroom capacity no more than 32 students will be registered for any session. Advance registrations for October and November 2020 will be taken along with early registrations for the 2021 classes beginning in January.
America’s Boating Course runs two nights per week Monday and Wednesday for three weeks. The classroom opens at 6 p.m. to allow student time to ask questions, discuss local items of interest, watch some supplemental videos, and go over the session review questions. The instructors begin the evening’s lessons at 7 p.m. and wrap-up around 9 p.m.
Classes will be help in the second-floor classroom of the Cape Coral Sail and Power Squadron, 917 S.E. 47th Terrace, Cape Coral FL 33904. To reserve a place in an upcoming class please call the offices at 239-549-9754 and leave a message.
