Seven-run first helps Tritons baseball team down Bulldogs

Mariner (6-2) scored seven runs in the first inning, handing the Ida Baker (7-1) its first loss of the season, 9-7

Alex Freeland drove in two runs for the Tritons, and five others drove in Mariner runs. Jaylen Youngs and Freeland scored two runs each.

Logan Wilsker homered for Ida Baker. AJ Marinello had two hits.

The teams were set to square off again Thursday.

Tuesday

Baseball

North Fort Myers 2, Estero 1: Aiden Denlinger and Kayden Castro combined to hold the Wildcats to a single run. Denlinger and Gavin Hause had RBI as the Red Knights improved to 3-8.

Island Coast 3, Cape Coral 1: Jordan Dence allowed one unearned run in five innings, striking out seven. Jake Mueller had two hits, and Brock Baisley had an RBI. Allen Guerrero allowed only two hits for Cape in 5 2/3 innings, but also allowed two runs.

Mariner 5, East Lee County 2: Singles: Ralp Arvey Leyesa (M) d Alex Rodriguez 6-0, 6-0; Hunter Antone (M) d Anthony Sierra 6-4, 6-4; Gage Franklin (M) d Logan Howard 4-6, 7-5, 10-3; Sergio Zarate (M) d Alex Ward 6-1, 6-3; Carlos Martinez (E) d Zach Braun 6-1, 6-3. Doubles: Leyesa/Antone (M) d Howard/ Tremain Elwine 8-1; Rodriguez/Martinez (E) d Braun/Zarate 8-0.

Girls tennis

Mariner 6, East Lee County 1: Singles: Cydney Rentsch (M) 6-0,6-0; Kara Perchall (M) 6-0,6-0; Gianna Annarumma (M) 6-0,6-0; Krysta Perez (M) 6-1,6-0; Kaab Khang (M) 6-0,6-0. Doubles: Bowles/Camper (EL) 8-4; Hall/Sigala (M) 8-2.

Girls lacrosse

Bishop Verot 19, Cypress Lake 3: The Vikings improved to 3-2 on the season.

Softball

Mariner 8, Ida Baker 4: Katie Campbell homered, drove in two runs and scored two as the Tritons (5-5) downed Ida Baker (4-5). Madison Gervais went for 2-for-3 wtih two RBI. Mariner scored eight runs on eight hits. Alana Hutchinson was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Alana Pena was 3-for-4.

North Fort Myers 3, Estero 2: The Red Knights (3-2) pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Kendall Wylie earned the pitching win to improve to 5-1. She struck out six.

Cape Coral 12, Island Coast 1 (5 innings): Abby Garcia drove in four Seahawks (4-4) runs on a 3-for-4 night at the plate. Ashlynn Butterfield was 2-for-3, scoring four times, while Camryn Maurer doubled twice with an RBI. Kirsten LaCombe allowed one run over five innings for the win. The Gators fell to 1-4.

Gulf Coast 16, Bishop Verot 3: Audrey Mills was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Vikings (1-7), and Courtney Teeter had two hits in three at-bats.
