Cape girls in regional basketball final tonight

The Cape Coral Seahawks upended Tampa Jefferson, 31-27, Tuesday evening to advance to the Region 5A-3 championship game tonight at Bradenton Southeast.

Tampa Jefferson entered the game as the top seed in the region.

Savannah Lang scored 11 points and Yarily Pacheco 10 for Cape Coral.

Cape (20-8) scored 23 of its 31 points in the second half.

The winner of tonight’s game advances to the state 5A semifinals.

Wednesday

Softball

Ida Baker 16, Bonita Springs 15 (8 innings): The Bulldogs walked off with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to end an offensive battle. Freshman Adrianna Prezespolewski had a monster night, driving in seven runs on a 4-for-6 night, including a homer, two doubles and two runs scored. Emma Fleming and Dominique Parker had two RBI each.

Baseball

Ida Baker 10, Bonita Springs 2: Dylan Gabor and Mason Dugas had two hits each along with an RBI, while Sebastian Grafmyre, Derek Ortiz, Logan Willkser and AJ Marinello each batted in a run. Grafmyre had three of the Bulldogs’ seven stolen bases.

Bishop Verot 7, Gateway Charter 0: The Vikings began the year with a home shutout.

Girls lacrosse

Bishop Verot 17, Fort Myers 4: The Vikings dominated the second half 12-1.

Boys lacrosse

Bishop Verot 16, Fort Myers 5: A nine-point second period propelled Bishop Verot.

Tuesday

Softball

North Fort Myers 14, Mariner 4 (5 innings): Mackenzie Woods had a grand slam home run and scored twice, while Haley Weaver had two hits and scored two runs. Freshman pitcher Kendall Wylie (1-0) allowed only one hit in 3 2/3 innings, and also had a homer and two doubles with four RBI. Madelyn Tejeda added two hits and scored twice, and Desirae Devine had a double and two RBI. The Tritons’ Madison Gervais homered and had four RBI. Delicia Bent was 2-for-3.

Oasis 16, SW Florida Christian 2 (5 innings): The Sharks dominated in their season opener. Julia Urbina was 2-for-2 and scored four runs, while Bailey Miller had two RBI, a double and three walks.

Gateway Charter 25, Island Coast 22: The Gators came out on the short end of a season-opening slugfest.

Estero 9, Cape Coral 0: The Seahawks were blanked in their first game of the year.

Baseball

Mariner 5, Riverdale 4: The Tritons rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win their season opener. The winning run scored on Drew Gifford’s bases-loaded walk, giving Mariner a truly walk-off victory. Alex Freeland had two hits and drove in two runs, and Xzavien Torres had two RBI. Dominick Cotoni worked 2 2/3 innings of relief for the victory.

Island Coast 7, Gulf Coast 1: Brady Porvanzik was 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Gators, while Jake Mueller doubled and drove in two runs. Kevin Rodriguez had two hits and scored twice.

Lely 28, Oasis 8 (5 innings): A tough season opener for the Sharks, as Lely scored 13 runs in the top of the fifth inning.

North Fort Myers 23, Dunbar 0 (4 innings): The Red Knights racked up 18 hits and took advantage of five Dunbar errors. North scored 13 runs in the second inning.

Cape Coral 4, Estero 1: The Seahawks opened with a road victory.
