Mariner holds on for district win over Port Charlotte, 74-64

The Mariner Tritons (11-3, 2-0) took the early lead in District 5A-11 with a 74-64 home victory over the Port Charlotte Pirates (7-5, 2-1).

Mariner’s boys led by 13 with 3:30 to play, then held off a late charge that saw Port Charlotte pull within five points in the final minute.


Girls soccer

Mariner 3, Barron Collier 0: The Tritons reached 8-4 on the season with Wednesday’s shutout. Next up is a home rivalry match with North Fort Myers.

Girls basketball

Port Charlotte 52, Mariner 37: The Tritons fell to 13-3, 1-1 in District 5A-11 with the road loss. Port Charlotte moved to 9-8, 2-2.

Island Coast 39, Gateway Charter 18: Island Coast won its second in a row to reach 6-5 on the season.


Boys soccer

Cape Coral 5, Immokalee 3: Down 3-1 with nine minutes to play, the Seahawks exploded for four goals and the victory. Juan Parra fired in all five goals for Cape Coral. Joao Soares and Jacob Jiminez made two assists each, and Lulas Cunha also earned an assist. Dylan Linares got the win in goal. The Seahawks (13-2-2) are home Thursday against Barron Collier.

Mariner 8, Bradenton Bayshore 0: Leo Perez scored five times for the Tritons (15-4-1, 2-0 District 4A-8), while Esteban Orjuela, Jason Arias and Mathias Arias each had a goal.

Bishop Verot 8, Oasis 0: Christian Fevrier-Sildor scored twice, while fellow freshman Cooper Banks had a goal and four assists to lead the Vikings (2-6-2, 1-1 District 3A-8). Ryan Cloutier had a goal and three assists. The Sharks remained (11-9) are 0-3 in the district.

Girls soccer

Cape Coral 8, Immokalee 0: The Seahawks improved to 4-6 with Tuesday’s victory.

Ida Baker 8, Bonita Springs 0: Emily Woods scored six goals and made an assist as the Bulldogs improved to 8-2-3. Kaylie Hernandez had two goals and Adrianne Wood added the other Ida Baker score.

Bishop Verot 4, Oasis 1: Gabby Tuffo led Bishop Verot (4-2-1, 1-0 District 3A-8) with a goal and two assists. Lesley Saldano, Jules Taglieri and Yoslin Cardenas also scored for the Vikings. Oasis is 6-4, 1-1.

Boys basketball

Bishop Verot 61, Neumann 42: The Vikings (8-5) dominated their Private 8 Conference game, a home contest against Neumann.

Girls basketball

Bishop Verot 36, Neumann 31: Catie Reszel scored 15 points and Addison Potts 12 as the Vikings (3-13) topped the Celtics in the Private 8 Conference.

Cape Coral 58, Bonita Springs 11: Savannah Lang scored 11 points, had 7 steals and 7 assists as the Seahawks improved to 8-8. Haley Lang scored 10 points, while Sierra Moore had 9 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

Golden Gate 32, Oasis 26: Golden Gate (7-8) dropped the visiting Sharks.
