Miracle falls 3-2 in morning contest
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. Edwar Colina allowed three runs or less for the seventh straight start, but the Miracle were upended by the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 3-2, Wednesday morning at Charlotte Sports Park.
Colina took a no-decision after allowing two unearned runs in 5.2 innings of work. The right-hander walked three and struck out five.
Charlotte broke a scoreless tie in the fifth on a Wander Franco two-run double. The Miracle responded with two runs in the sixth. Jose Miranda doubled home Trey Cabbage, before scoring on a Michael Helman sacrifice fly.
Tied 2-2 in the seventh, Joey Roach delivered an RBI single to give Charlotte a lead they would not relinquish.
In the ninth, the Miracle put runners at first and second with two outs, but Miranda grounded back to the mound to end the game. The Miracle third baseman finished 2-for-5.
Fort Myers finished 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.
Zach Neff (1-1) suffered the loss after allowing one run in 2.1 innings of relief.
The Miracle will look to avoid the sweep Thursday night when the series shifts to Fort Myers. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
