Mets shade Miracle in 11 innings

2 min read

PORT ST. LUCIE – The St. Lucie Mets pushed across the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning Saturday night to post a 3-2 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle.

The Miracle (20-16) opened the scoring in the first inning for the fourth straight road game. Tanner Witt, who walked to lead off the inning, scored on a bases-loaded single by Chris Paul to put the visitors on top 1-0.

The Mets answered in the second to take a 2-1 lead on a two-out, two-run home run by John Mora off Miracle starter Randy Rosario.

Fort Myers responded as Paul struck again in the top of the third to tie the score at 2-2. Gordon singled with one out, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Paul’s line drive RBI double to left field.

The Miracle did have a couple of good chances to push across a run late in the game as they put two runners on base in each on the 10th and 11th innings, but were unable to break the tie.

As a result, the score remained unchanged until the bottom of the 11th when the Mets plated the game-winner. Miracle reliever Luke Bard retired the first two batters in the inning before Wuilmer Becerra reached on an infield single, stole second, and scored on Michael Katz’ line single to left field.

The Miracle and Mets close out this three-game series in Port St. Lucie Sunday afternoon.
