Tritons crush Red Knights 19-3

Jimmy Meredith, Justin Waibel and Christian Velez all drove in three runs to lead Mariner’s 19-3, five-inning victory over North Fort Myers on Friday.

Meredith and Waibel each cracked three-run triples while Velez doubled. Andrew Arsenault and Jorge Sunti each drove in two runs with a pair of base hits.

The Tritons (13-9) scored nine runs in the first inning to put the game away early. They added seven runs in the third inning.

The Tritons play Seacrest on Monday in the Battle of the Border tournament at Terry Park.

Port Charlotte 2, Ida Baker 1: Port Charlotte tok a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning Friday and held off Baker.

Matt Lapoint tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts and scattered seven hits to pick up the win for the Pirates.

Chris Schrowe (6-1) matched Lapoint with seven strikeouts over seven innings to take the loss. Christian Proffitt, Dakota Kayatta and Christian Menendez each collected two hits for the Bulldogs. Menendez drove home Kayatta for the Bulldogs’ lone run in the sixth inning.

The Bulldogs (17-4) face Riverdale Monday in the Battle of the Border tournament at Terry Park.

Softball

Mariner 5, SWF Christian 1: Hannah Holloway allowed no earned runs on just two hits while striking out 11 Friday in Mariner’s victory over SWF Christian.

Holloway (15-5) also drove in a run with two base hits. Amanda Myers delivered the game-winning run with a single in the fourth inning, staking the Tritons to a 2-0 lead at the time.

Madison James drove in two runs with a pair of hits for the Tritons (20-5), who host Island Coast on Monday in the District 6A-11 Tournament.
