Tritons fall to Green Wave 7-4

Mariner banged out 12 base hits Thursday night, but a four-run sixth-inning rally lifted Fort Myers to a 7-4 victory.

Andrew Arsenault drove in two Tritons runs with a pair of base hits. Mason Eicher, Justin Weibel and Nick Lamoureux also contributed two hits apiece.

Tied 3-3 after three innings, the Tritons took a 4-3 lead in the fourth that lasted until the Green Wave’s rally in the sixth. The rally handed Joey Sagi (1-2) the loss in relief of Andrew Patton, who lasted just 1 2/3 innings.

The Tritons (12-9) committed three errors during the Wave’s game-winning rally. Mariner hosts North Fort Myers on Friday and a victory locks down the No. 2 seed for the district tournament.

Palmetto 3, Island Coast 2: Leading 2-1 through six innings Thursday night, Island Coast misplayed a fly ball in the sixth inning that led to two runs and a loss to Palmetto.

Matt Steele drove in one Gators run with a single and Alex Perez drove in the other with a single. Steele and Felix Camacho contributed two hits apiece while Anthony Churlin added a double to the Gators’ offense. Chase Chatman (2-3) was saddled with the loss after allowing one earned run on four hits and two strikeouts over seven innings.

The Gators (11-11) play at Cypress Lake on Friday.

Softball

Fort Myers 3, Mariner 0: Fort Myers shut out Mariner Thursday night by allowing the Tritons just two base hits.

Hannah Holloway and Monica Montes collected the two hits with Holloway (15-5) being dealt the defeat on the mound despite scattering five hits and striking out five batters without allowing an earned run.

The Tritons (19-5) host Southwest Florida Christian on Friday.

North Fort Myers 16, South Fort Myers 0: Mackenzie Peterson didn’t allow a base hit in North’s three-inning victory Thursday over South Fort Myers.

North banged out 15 base hits and put the game out of reach on the mercy rule by scoring 10 runs in the third inning to close it out.
