Baker rights ship with 10-0 win
Ida Baker broke its two-game losing streak Thursday night with a 10-0 victory at East Lee County.
Chris Sabo tossed three innings of one-hit, one-strikeout ball to earn the shutout win for the Bulldogs. Cody Hill led the offense with three hits, including one of three doubles. Luke Endsley and Matt Laker also contributed doubles to the cause.
The Bulldogs (11-2) look to avenge their loss earlier this week to the Gators on Friday at Island Coast.
Estero 3, Mariner 0: Mariner was held to just two base hits Thursday night in a shutout loss to Estero.
Mason Eicher and Andrew Arsenault accounted for the Tritons’ hits while D.J. Varner (2-3) took the hit on the mound, allowing three runs on six hits over three innings while striking out four.
The Tritons (7-8) host Port Charlotte on Tuesday.
Island Coast 2, Fort Myers 1: Chase Chatman (2-1) pitched a complete-game five-hitter Thursday night, allowing one run while striking out seven as Island Coast beat Fort Myers.
Miguel Vidal drove in the Gators’ first run with a single in the first inning. Tied 1-1 in the fifth, Felix Camacho hit a fielder’s choice ground ball that plated the game-winning run. Anthony Churlin had the team’s lone extra-base hit, a double.
The Gators (9-5) host Ida Baker on Friday.
Softball
Ida Baker 11, East Lee County 3: Denia Bent led Baker’s lopsided victory Thursday on the mound and at the plate.
Bent struck out 10 batters to limit the Jaguars’ offense while contributing two hits with one RBI at the plate. Tiffany Wilenius added two hits, including a double and two RBI. Andrea Walker also drove in two runs on three hits.
Mariner 5, Estero 1: Hannah Holloway (10-4) limited Estero to two hits and one run while striking out 14 batters Thursday to show Mariner the way to victory.
Abby Love drove in a run with two hits while Amanda Myers scored two runs and had two hits.
The Tritons (13-4) play at Gateway Charter on Friday.
