Seahawks, Tritons score lopsided wins

Lopsided victories were the order of the night for Cape Coral and Mariner baseball teams. Both registered mercy-rule wins in five innings or less on Wednesday.

Cape Coral trampled East Lee County 12-2 in five innings in the third round of the Seahawks’ traditional Early Bird Tournament at Terry Park. Mariner, on the other hand, whipped Dunbar 15-0 in four innings.

Julian Vasquez went 4-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Seahawks offense. Brandon Dye added two hits and scored two runs while Spencer Roach scored twice and drove in two runs. Tre Waltz earned his first win of the season on the mound by striking out four batters in two innings of work.

The Seahawks (2-1) take on Palmetto Ridge Thursday in the final round of the tournament at Terry Park.

Mariner 15, Dunbar 0: Daniel Varner worked four innings, allowing two hits while striking out eight, in the Tritons’ shutout victory Wednesday.

Christian Velez led the Tritons going 4-for-4 with four RBI and a pair of doubles. James Bartolotta went 3-for-3 and scored four runs.

The Tritons scores six runs in the first inning and five in the third in the rout. The Tritons (1-1) play at Charlotte on Monday.

Lehigh 18, Oasis 9: Seven errors cost Oasis Wednesday in a big loss to Lehigh in the Cape Coral Early Bird Tournament at Terry Park.

Lewis Evans and Josh Morales led the Sharks with two hits apiece. Jake Hadden drove in three runs while Justin Brooks (0-1) took the loss on the mound.

The Sharks (1-1) face Riverdale Thursday in the final round of the tournament.

North Fort Myers 2, Riverdale 1: Drayton Bourque led the Red Knights on both sides of the plate Wednesday night in the Cape Coral Early Bird Tournament at Terry Park.

Bourque (1-0) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI while picking up the win on the mound with six innings of shutout ball, allowing eight hits. The Knights (1-1) play East Lee County Thursday night in the final round of the tournament.

Softball

Mariner 15, Dunbar 0: Mariner’s 15-run third inning uprising proved fatal for the visiting Tigers, who issued a total of 14 walks over four innings.

Madison James belted a grand slam home run to spark the uprising. Kaylynn Friday (2-0) allowed one hit while striking out eight to pick up the win on the mound.

The Tritons (4-1) host North Fort Myers on Friday, their second meeting this week.
