FSW goes down 12-7
Florida SouthWestern State College dropped its first baseball game of the season Wednesday in a 12-7 loss to College of Central Florida.
J.D. Dutka led the Bucs (3-1) going 3-for-6 with a pair of home runs, a double and three RBI. Colin Smith, Hayden Platt and Nyle Newland had solid outings, finishing 4-for-5, 2-for-4 and 2-for-2, respectively.
Sophomore Jack Piekos started on the mound and took the loss. The New York native surrendered 11 hits for eight runs and struck out five batters.
The Bucs went on the road Thursday for the first time to take on Webber University JV in Babson Park in doubleheader. They visit Broward College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Softball: The Bucs’ softball team split a doubleheader with Ave Maria at Cambier Park in Naples on Wednesday.
In the opener, the Bucs shut out the Gyrenes 8-0 in six innings. Kayla Rangiawha led FSW with a grand slam and five total RBI. Courtney Gettins picked up the win, tossing six innings and fanning three.
In game two, the Bucs (3-2) lost 9-6 in seven innings. Criza Bulanadi went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Rangiawha contributed a hit and two RBI while Hollianne Dohrn had two hits and drove in one.
The Bucs played their first home game of the season Thursday against Palm Beach State at City of Palms Park. They are at Indian River State for two games at 1 p.m. Saturday.
