FGCU picked to place 6th in A-Sun softball
FGCU’s softball team was voted by Atlantic Sun Conference coaches to finish sixth in the conference preseason poll.
The Eagles received 16 points in the poll, finishing in a tie with Jacksonville. Lipscomb enters the 2016 season as the favorites to win the A-Sun, earning six of the seven first-place votes and a total of 48 points. USC Upstate was tabbed to finish second followed by Kennesaw State, Stetson and North Florida rounding out the top five.
The Eagles return eight starters and 17 letterwinners from last season’s squad. Fifteen of the 22 players on the roster are listed as sophomore or younger.
The Eagles open the season with four consecutive tournaments, beginning with the FGCU Kickoff Classic starting Feb. 12.
Men’s Basketball: The Eagles took a six-game winning streak on the road Thursday to face Kennesaw State and Saturday at Lipscomb. It is their first road game since Dec. 6.
The Eagles (12-7, 3-0 A-Sun) are looking to equal and possibly surpass their second-longest Division I winning streak of seven games on the road trip.
Their 2012-13 Sweet Sixteen club had two seven-game spurts. The Eagles had a 10-game run in conference play last season.
Kennesaw State is coming off a loss at North Florida in which it had a double-figure first-half lead before falling to the Ospreys.
