A successful penalty kick in the first half put Lakewood Ranch in front Wednesday night in an eventual 2-0 victory at Mariner.

“We played well in the midfield and got solid defense from Nathan Monroe,” said Tritons coach Martin Cardenas. “Our goalkeepers did a good job, too.”

Mason Eicher and Robert Quintanilla split the keeping duties with Eicher credited with three saves in the first half and Quintanilla two saves in the second half. The penalty kick goal came in the first half while the insurance goal was delivered with about nine minutes remaining.

The Tritons (9-7-3) host Lehigh on Thursday.

Boys Basketball

Bishop Verot 61, East Lee County 45: Bishop Verot rebounded from Tuesday night’s debacle to overpower East Lee County on Wednesday.

Luke Lanman topped the Vikings with 18 points, backed by Austin Mosbach’s 16 points.

“We shot better from the perimeter tonight and made some threes,” said Vikings coach Matt Herting. “We also did not turn the ball over as much.”

The Vikings (4-10) play at Gateway Charter on Thursday.
