Everblades set to play three in Greenville
Two losses over the weekend to the Orlando Solar Bears chipped a couple of points off the Florida Everblades’ lead in the ECHL South Division standings, but the Blades (23-11) still enjoy a five-point advantage over second-place South Carolina (19-14) as they head to Greenville (17-17) for three games in three days starting Thursday.
The Everblades got back on track Sunday with a 4-1 win in Orlando after dropping a New Year’s Day matchup 5-3 at Germain Arena and a 3-1 decision Saturday in Orlando. The Blades lead the Wawa Sunshine Cup series with the Bears having won five of their seven encounters. The Blades return to home ice on Jan. 13.
Matt Willows, Evan Bloodoff, Kevin Lynch and Brant Harris each scored goals in Sunday’s win. Much like Saturday night, the Solar Bears (12-19) scored early putting the Blades in catch-up mode.
Willows tied the game midway through the first period and Bloodoff’s goal put the Blades in the lead for good early in the final period. Lynch and Harris sealed the win with empty-net goals late in the period when the Bears pulled the goalkeeper.
Blades goalie Anthony Peters earned his 11th win of the season, stopping 18 of the 19 shots he faced.
