Goaltender Tirronen reassigned from ‘Blades
The NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes have reassigned goaltender Rasmus Tirronen to the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers after playing just two games for the Florida Everblades.
Tirronen, 25, won both games he started for the Blades with a 1.50 goals-against average. Tirronen returns to the Checkers where he posted a 4-2 record with a 3.33 GAA in eight games this season.
The Blades (21-9) return to action on Sunday against the Solar Bears in Orlando. It’s the final game of 2015 for the two state rivals, who play a rematch in the Wawa Sunshine Cup Series on New Year’s Day at Germain Arena.
The Blades, in first place in the ECHL’s South Division standings, are coming off a two-game sweep of the South Carolina Stingrays (15-13). The wins increased the Blades lead in the standings to nine points over South Carolina and Atlanta (16-11), now tied for second place with 33 points.
Corey Cowick, Evan Bloodoff, Ethan Werek and Ryan Martindale scored goals Saturday night in the Everblades’ 4-1 victory in North Charleston, S.C. Tirronen turned away 19 of the 20 shots he faced on Saturday.
The Blades also prevailed 2-1 over the Stingrays in overtime on Friday.
