Tritons entertain Seahawks
A full slate of winter sports are on tap for Friday night, featuring the boys’ basketball rivalry series between the Seahawks of Cape Coral and unbeaten Tritons at Mariner.
The matchup is the second in a matter of days for the Seahawks (4-1) against a city rival after dropping a last-second, one-point loss to Island Coast. The Seahawks led that game by 10 points with just over six minutes remaining as the Gators rallied to win it on a free throw in the final second.
Island Coast faces another District 6A-10 opponent Friday in Lemon Bay. The Gators posted an 81-52 victory over Bishop Verot Wednesday night to creep to the positive side of .500 on the season so far. In another 6A-10 matchup, Ida Baker travels to Charlotte.
Oasis also hosts Evangelical Christian, North Fort Myers hosts Port Charlotte and Bishop Verot travels to Estero.
Friday’s schedule for girls has Ida Baker hosting Charlotte, Island Coast visiting Lemon Bay and North Fort Myers visiting Port Charlotte in District 6A-10. Mariner hosts Dunbar and Oasis hosts Evangelical Christian.
In boys’ soccer, Cape Coral goes to Evangelical Christian while Baker hosts Venice and Mariner hosts Fort Myers.
For the girls, Cape Coral faces Evangelical Christian in a doubleheader before the boys while Baker and Venice play the nightcap after the boys’ game. Also Mariner travels to Fort Myers and North heads to Lely.
The only Southwest Florida football team remaining in the state playoffs sends Naples to Miami Central for the Class 6A state semifinals Friday. The winner earns a shot at the 6A state championship to be played on Dec. 12 at the Orange Bowl in Orlando.
