Tritons finish Turkey Shootout unbeaten

Mariner ran its record to 5-0 Saturday night with a 62-49 triumph over Boca Ciega in the final round of Island Coast’s Turkey Shootout tournament.

Sean Kostyk and Jahmel Myers led theTritons with 15 points apiece. Amir Hayes pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to go with his five points and Isaiah Darrett handed out seven assists.

“We pulled away in the fourth quarter with a 19-9 run,” said Tritons coach James Harris. “This was a good game for us. We played one of the better teams from St. Pete. We shot well, especially 7-of-14 from 3-point range.”

With Friday’s 77-49 rout of Naples in the tournament’s first round, the Tritons remain unbeaten as they prepare to host Lely on Tuesday.

Darrett and Haynes scored in double figures with 14 points apiece to lead the Tritons past Naples. Both also hauled down six rebounds to lead the team.

South Fort Myers 83, Island Coast 68: Sam Merchant scored a game-high 27 points to lead Island Coast’s offense that produced three double-figure scorers in Friday’s loss.

Craig Sirmons pumped in 15 points to go with a team-high 10 rebounds and Kory Curtis added 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Gators (2-3) also lost a close one to Viera 71-68 Saturday afternoon. The Gators

Fort Myers and Lehigh won first-round matches for Lee County teams participating in the 16-team tourney. The Green Wave edged Boca Ciega 57-54 while Lehigh clipped Tampa Belen Jesuit 69-61.

In Saturday’s second round, Lehigh prevailed 72-47 over North Port while Fort Myers dropped a 75-72 overtime decision to Lake Mary.
