2 min read

Crosstown rivals collided Monday night in a key District 6A-10 matchup that even early in the season speaks volumes about the makeup of boys’ district basketball.

Cape Coral got balanced scoring in handing Ida Baker an 80-53 defeat. C.J. Lewis led the Seahawks (3-0) with 16 points while Luis Calderon pitched in with 15 points and five rebounds and Stephen Hawkins added 11 points. Jonathan Moreno contributed five assists.

The Bulldogs (0-4) also got balanced scoring from a trio of floor leaders, but an early run by the Seahawks forced the host team to play catch-up the entire night. Gabe Casey topped the Bulldogs with 16 points, backed by Devin Hanley with 13 and Corey Friar hit for 11 points to go with 10 rebounds.

Baker came as close as six points just before halftime, but Cape pulled away down the stretch.

The Seahawks visit Dunbar Tuesday night while the Bulldogs host North Fort Myers next week Tuesday.
