Jesuit hands first defeat to Seahawks
If there is such a thing as a “good” loss, the Cape Coral Seahawks did just that Saturday afternoon in Tampa.
The previously unbeaten Seahawks (4-1) took on a very strong Tampa Jesuit soccer program and came up short 4-2 despite giving up two penalty kick goals.
“They are a very strong team,” said Seahawks coach Aldo Nardiello. “They made ups pay for our mistakes. That may benefit us in the long run.”
Having given up a penalty kick goal in the game’s first 30 seconds, the Seahawks fell behind 2-0, but cut that deficit to 2-1 by halftime on the first of Gianni Cognata’s two goals.
The Seahawks tied the match 2-2 on Cognata’s second goal early in the second half. Andre Blanco and Camilo Avendano were credited with assists for the Hawks. Goalkeeper Kyal Weber tallied eight saves in the match.
Jesuit knocked in what proved to be the game-winning goal midway through the second half with the second penalty kick score coming late in the game making it 4-1.
The Seahawks visit North Fort Myers on Tuesday.
