Shin wins state Class 2A golf title
Ida Baker’s Brittany Shin was crowned the girls’ individual Class 2A State Champion by four strokes Saturday with a two-round total of 141.
Shin’s 3-under-par performance (71-70) was the only 18-hole score below par recorded in the Class 2A Finals. Shin becomes the first girls’ individual state champion in golf from the Cape since Phyllis Conroy (Cape High) did it in 1982.
Cape High’s Brooke Ciccone tied for 36th place in the class with rounds of 90-84-174.
Amanda Gartell of Lakeland and Kendall Griffin of Sebring tied for second behind Shin at 145.
Volleyball
Region 4A-3 Semifinals: Tampa Berkeley Prep def. Bishop Verot 21-25, 25-17, 25-27, 25-20, 15-10 on Saturday. Berkeley Prep will host Oxbridge Academy of West Palm Beach at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the regional finals.
