Tarpons rout Seahawks 42-0
The Cape Coral Seahawks found out first hand just how good the Charlotte Tarpons are.
Senior quarterback Brennan Simms shredded the Seahawks defense for four first-quarter touchdown passes as the 8-0 Tarpons improved to 4-0 in District 6A-10 with a 42-0 win at Charlotte Friday night.
Cape slipped to 2-6, 1-3 in the district.
“That’s just a good football team we played tonight,” Seahawks coach Larry Gary said. “That’s no secret there. We didn’t expect them to score that many times in the air, but they run a good offense. What can you say?”
Simms had a career night in the first quarter alone, hitting all eight passes he threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns. Stantley Thomas hauled in a 67-yarder on the first play from scrimmage and a 31-yarder with just over a minute left in the period. In between, Jacob White had touchdown receptions of 1 and 26 yards.
Maleek Williams had a 66-yard run for a TD and added a two-point conversion run as the Tarpons led 35-0 early in the second period.
Simms hit nine passes in a row before his first incompletion. He finished the night 11-of-14 for 278 yards. Thomas caught four of those passes for 153 yards and two scores.
Simms has 18 touchdowns passing while allowing one interception this season.
Williams only carried the ball four times, but still managed 81 yards rushing. Elijah Mack came in for Williams and scored on a 12-yard run on the last play of the third quarter.
The second half was played with a running clock.
Cape quarterback Maurice Flournoy was 3-of-8 for 64 yards and an interception. Hunter Bontrager came in and completed 9-of-15 passes for 70 yards with one interception.
“Maurice wasn’t getting any continuity on the offense,” Gary said. “Hunter has some skills at the quarterback position.”
Both Seahawks quarterbacks were harassed all night, with the Tarpons recording eight sacks.
Charlotte recorded its fourth shutout of the season.
Flournoy later came in as a receiver.
The Seahawks finish the season with two more road games, against longtime rivals North Fort Myers next week and Mariner in the finale.
