Cape’s 6A-10 teams ousted from postseason
All three Cape Coral teams in District 6A-10 Tournament volleyball action Monday night were eliminated from postseason play.
North Fort Myers swept Ida Baker 25-13, 25-11, 25-19 to advance to the semifinal round on Tuesday. The No. 2 seeded Red Knights host No. 3 Lemon Bay, which deleted Cape Coral 25-16, 25-18, 25-27, 25-19 on Monday.
Port Charlotte topped Island Coast 25-12, 25-18, 25-27, 25-23 Monday night to advance to Tuesday’s semifinals at top-seeded Charlotte. The semifinal winners play for the championship on Thursday with both advancing to the regional round next week.
Port Charlotte 3, Island Coast 1: Rallying back into the match after dropping the first two games, the Gators came up short in the end.
Julia Rose led the Gators with six kills to go with 19 digs and 10 assists. Jordan Gainley contributed five kills and 19 digs while Hailey Kalamaras added three kills and three blocks. Mackenzie Hare added 13 digs defensively.
The Gators finish the season 11-13, breaking he school record for wins in a season in the process. The previous mark of 10 wins was set just last season.
North Fort Myers 3, Ida Baker 1: Ida Baker went down swinging as the Red Knights prevailed in a straight-set victory.
Amanda Goss had seven kills and 10 digs to lead the Bulldogs (10-15). Alicia Marzullo contributed three kills, three blocks and seven digs to the cause while Sydney Sammons added three blocks and 11 digs.
The Red Knights host No. 3 Lemon Bay in Tuesday’s semifinal round.
Lemon Bay 3, Cape Coral 1: Similar to the Gators, the Seahawks rallied after dropping the first two games only to lose in four games.
Danielle Smith led the Seahawks (13-8) with nine assists to go with 19 digs. Alayshia Henry belted three service aces and Makenzie Buss had four kills. Hannah Galbreath contributed three blocks.
The win earns the Manta Rays the right to take on top-seeded Charlotte Tuesday in the semifinals round. The winner earns a postseason appearance in regional play.
