Cape rally beats Mariner 3-2
Cape Coral rallied from two games down Thursday night to conquer crosstown rival Mariner 21-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-12 in the regular season’s final match for both teams.
Alayshia Henry led the Seahawks (13-7) with 16 kills to go with three blocks. Danielle Smith delivered four service aces and handed out 20 assists while Julie Pena contributed 15 digs.
Both teams enter district tournament play that starts Monday. Cape, the sixth seed in District 6A-10, travels to No. 3 Lemon Bay Monday. The winner plays in the semifinal round on Tuesday.
Mariner, the second seed in District 5A-12, hosts No. 3 Immokalee in the semifinal round on Tuesday. Championship games in both district are Thursday.
Island Coast 3, Dunbar 0: Island Coast swept Dunbar 25-4, 25-8, 25-13 on senior night Thursday led by lone senior Julia Rose with two kills, eight assists and three digs.
Libero Riley Hare contributed seven service aces and seven digs. Megan Smith smashed 10 kills while Meagan Harward contributed four kills and three digs.
The fifth-seeded Gators enter District 6A-10 Tournament play Monday at fourth-seed Port Charlotte.
