Blades get 8 players from AHL
Goaltenders Daniel Altshuller and Anthony Peters along with defenseman Matt Willows have been assigned to the Florida Everblades from the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL. They are among a total of seven players assigned to the team during training camp this week.
The Blades are preparing for two preseason games tonight and Saturday at Germain Arena against the Orlando Solar Bears. After another week of training camp, they open their 18th season in Southwest Florida at Germain Arena next weekend against the Atlanta Gladiators.
Five of the eight have spent time in a Blades jersey.
Peters, 24, was with the Everblades last spring. He posted a 2-0 record with a goals-against average of 0.96 and a .966 save percentage.
Altshuller, 21, returns to the Blades where he posted a record of 8-3-1, allowing 3.21 goals-against and 0.881 save percentage in 14 games. He also made six playoff appearances, including a 30-save shutout effort against the Orlando Solar Bears.
Willows, 24, recorded 35 points in 40 games last season at the University of New Hampshire. He finished his four-year college career with 90 points.
The Checkers also sent defenseman Justin Agosta and forward Jared Staal to the Blades. Forward Brant Harris joins the group from the Manitoba Moose and rookie defenseman Matt Stanisz from the Providence Bruins.
Staal, 25, returns to the Blades after posting 11 points (7g, 4a) in 63 games with Charlotte last season. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound winger appeared in 33 games for the Everblades in 2010-11.
Harris, 25, returns after an impressive rookie campaign with the Blades in which he tallied 43 points in 57 games.
Agosta, 24, enters his rookie season after posting 22 points (3g, 19a) in 39 games played during his senior season at Quinnipiac University.
Stanisz, 25, joins the Everblades after accounting for 17 points (2g, 15a) in 21 games at Carleton University.
The team also agreed to terms with rookie forward Brendan O’Donnell, who recorded 21 points (13g, 8a) and a plus-9 rating in 40 games in his senior season at the University of North Dakota.
