Verot wins own golf invitational

Landon Weber toured the Stony Brook course in 2-under-par 70 to take the overall individual title Wednesday and carry Fort Myers to second place behind host Bishop Verot in the Vikings’ Invitational.

Led by Cole Connor’s round of 1-over 73 to finish in a three-way tie for second individually, the host Vikings combined for a team total of 308 and edge Fort Myers for the title with 311. Luke Farmer of Estero and Michael Chesnover of Fort Myers were the other two tied with Connor at 73.

Charlotte (323) placed third in the nine-team field, followed by Community School of Naples (329) in fourth, Evangelical Christian (339) and Ida Baker sixth at 344. Estero (351), St. John Neumann (358) and Oasis (435) round out the field.

“Our whole team is just flat right now,” said Baker coach Scott Conforte. “We have no one who has stepped up to lead us at this point.”

The Bulldogs tee off with North Fort Myers and Mariner on Thursday at Coral Oaks.

Volleyball

North Fort Myers 3, Ida Baker 0: North Fort Myers pinned a straight-set defeat on Ida Baker 25-14, 25-9, 25-14 Wednesday night.

“We struggled to play as a team tonight,” said Bulldogs coach Rene Van Horn.

Amanda Gross led the Bulldogs with seven kills, five assists and four digs while Alicia Marzullo contributed four kills, four assists and seven digs.

The Bulldogs (6-7) participate in Estero’s Wildcat Invitational on Saturday.

Island Coast 3, East Lee County 0: Megan Smith’s six kills to go with two service aces were enough to lead Island Coast to a straight-set 25-8, 25-10, 25-14 victory Wednesday night at East Lee County.

Mikaelah Monahan contributed five aces and Mac Hare added three with three kills.
