Oasis wins shortened game 36-12

3 min read

Earning their first win of the season Friday night, the Oasis Sharks won an injury shortened game over Spring Hill Academy 36-12 at Storms Complex.

The game was called less than a minute into the second half. Entering the game with only 16 players, Spring Hill was behind the eight ball from the get go. A series of injuries throughout the game resulted in the Wildcats eventually falling below the minimum player limit.

With the game called, both teams met at midfield for a prayer before breaking away into their own end for huddles. The result was ruled final by the officiating crew with Oasis being awarded the win.

While the win may come with an asterisks next to it, the game belonged to Oasis from the second quarter on. Led by an extremely punishing running attack, Oasis scored four second quarter touchdowns on the way to the win.

A combined 217 rushing yards by the Sharks easily exhausted the already shorthanded Wildcat defense. The end result saw the Sharks score four times on the ground.

Though Sharks went on to win the game, it was Spring Hill that struck first. An opening 52-yard touchdown run by Nathan Spratt gave the Wildcats an early 6-0 advantage.

Bouncing back quickly, the Sharks answered on the following drive. Moving the ball almost 60 yards, the Sharks scored on a one-yard run by Mikel Kola.

Allowing a Wildcat touchdown on the following drive, Oasis ended the first quarter trailing 12-6. From that point on, it was all Oasis in the second quarter.

Showcasing his duel-threat ability, Sharks quarterback Jeff Myers took command of the Sharks offense. One play after the Sharks recovered a fumble on the Spring Hill 1-yard line, Myers punched the ball in himself.

On the following possession, it was once again Myers who delivered a critical blow to Spring Hill. Using a spin move to break multiple tackles, Myers scored on a 35-yard highlight quality run.

Capping his off his performance, the Myers showcased his throwing ability on a seven-yard TD pass to wide receiver Noah Houfek.

While Myers was the star of the offense, running back Mikel Kola put on a show of his running ability late in the second quarter.

With less than 30-seconds remaining in the half, Kola broke through the defense, taking the ball 78 yards to the end zone for the final TD.

Even with the performance, Oasis has no chance to rest this week. The Sharks host Solid Rock Community next Friday at Storms Complex.
