Gross leads Bulldogs past cross-town rivals in four sets
Amanda Gross set two career highs Tuesday night in leading Ida Baker past crosstown rival Mariner 25-21, 12-25, 25-13, 26-24.
Gross delivered career highs in kills with 31 and digs with 31. The Bulldogs also got 31 assists from Val Carvajal with Alicia Marzullo tacking on 10 kills.
“We have to be able to communicate better with each other,” said Bulldogs coach Rene Van Horn. “We have to iron that out and be better on the court.”
Abby Love finished with 16 service points for the Tritons to go with three digs and three kills while libber Natalia Christia added seven digs. Setter Karleigh Acosta scores eight points on serves.
The Bulldogs (5-3) visit St. John Neumann on Thursday. Mariner visits Island Coast Wednesday.
North Fort Myers 3, Cape Coral 0: North Fort Myers handed Cape High just its third defeat of the season Tuesday night with a straight-set triumph 25-12, 25-16, 25-18.
Makenzie Buss and Heather Souchik led the Seahawks with four kills apiece. Alayshia Henry and Veidre Ceremond each added three kills wot Danielle Smith handing out 12 assists.
Buss also led in digs with 13 and Ceremony added 11.
The Seahawks (8-3) host East Lee County on Thursday.
Charlotte 3, Island Coast 0: The Gators went down in straight sets meekly Tuesday night at Charlotte 25-8, 25-13, 25-12.
Megan Smith led the Gators with seven kills to go with eight digs while Julia Rose contributed 15 assists with eight digs.
The Gators host Mariner on Wednesday.
Bishop Verot 3, Evangelical Christian 1: Mindie Mabry pounded out 15 kills to lead the Vikings to a 25-21, 18-25, 27-25, 25-19 win Tuesday night over Evangelical Christian.
Taya Leonard added eight kills to go with seven service aces and 21 assists while Allie Gerlach handed out 17 assists for the Vikings (4-0), who host Barron Collier on Thursday.
Golf
At Palmetto Pine (Boys): Ryan Frost fired a nine-hole medal-winning round of 38 Tuesday to spark Barron Collier past Fort Myers and Ida Baker in a ti-match.
Frost led the Cougars to a match-winning score of 158, topping the Green Wave with 164 and the Bulldogs with 167. Blake Donnelly led the Bulldogs with a round of 39, one of three scored in the match. Michael Chesnover of Fort Myers and Sam Nunner of Collier matched Donnelly’s 39.
The Bulldogs (2-2) head to Pelican Sound on Thursday to tee off against Estero.

At Coral Oaks (Boys): Joey Sagi toured Coral Oaks in 46 strokes Tuesday to capture medalist honors in leading Mariner to victory over short-handed Dunbar.
Sani led Mariner to a team total of 255 while Dunbar had one player declared disqualified to negate any team score.

At Magnolia Landings (Boys): Cypress Lake coasted past North Fort Myers Tuesday behind the lofty medal-winning round of 44 by Jake Kalisik.
Kalisik led the Panthers to a team score of 201 to vanquish the Red Knights at 249. Trent Dickey topped the Knights with 61.
The Knights (3-1) participate in the North of the River Tournament Friday at Coral Oaks.
