Everblades pick up an Aces defender
The Florida Everblades acquired defenseman Corey Syvret Thursday from the Alaska Aces in exchange for defenseman Gleason Fournier.
Forward Gabriel Desjardins agreed to contract terms with the Everblades on Wednesday.
Desjardins and Syvret bring the Blades’ roster commits to seven players, joining forwards Evan Bloodoff, Maxime St. Cyr, Jeff Jones, Corey Cowick, and defenseman Mark Nemec on the roster.
Desjardins, 22, returns to the Blades after finishing last season with 17 points (8g, 9a) in 29 regular season games. In addition, he recorded two assists in six playoff appearances.
“Gabriel was a really strong player for our team last season,” said Everblades coach Greg Poss. “He had to deal with injuries last season, and our goal is to keep him healthy so he can continue to reach his potential.”
The 6-foot, 212-pound left-winger logged an assist in 12 games with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season.
Syvret, 26, joins the team after closing out his three-year stay with the Aces registering 19 points (6g, 13a) with a plus-12 rating in 45 games played last season. The 6-2, 200-pound blueliner totaled 52 points (9g, 43a) and a plus-38 rating in 105 appearances during his three seasons in Alaska.
“Corey has been a solid defenseman the past few years with Alaska,” said Poss. “With his experience, we expect him to be a real leader for us both on and off the ice.”
The Blades open the new ECHL season at Germain Arena on Oct. 16 and 17 against the Gwinnett Gladiators.
