Cards rally to clip Miracle 3-2
PALM BEACH – The Fort Myers Miracle lost to the Palm Beach Cardinals 3-2 Sunday afternoon.
The Miracle took a first-inning lead on the back of two hits and an error, followed by an RBI fielder’s choice by Marcus Knecht, scoring Engelb Vielma for a 1-0 lead.
It took both teams five innings to score another run. Anderling Mejia walked and Mitch Garver doubled him in, all with two outs and the Miracle led 2-0.
In the Cardinals’ half of the sixth, two wild pitches by Ryan Eades allowed Luke Voit to score to cut the Miracle lead in half.
Palm Beach tied the game and then got the game-winning run in the eighth on Brett Wiley’s sac-fly and a single by Collin Radack.
Garver led the Miracle with two hits and an RBI on the afternoon. Ryan Eades threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing only one run and striking out four.
Nick Petree (4-2) got the win with eight innings allowing two runs, only one of them was earned. The losing pitcher was Trevor Hildenberger (0-1) gave up two runs in his lone inning of work.
The Miracle (61-53, 23-21) head to St. Lucie Monday to open a three-game series against the Mets.
