FGCU softball team to hold All-Skills Camp July 6-9

2 min read

The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team will host its annual All-Skills Camp for girls ages 8-13, July 6-9, at the FGCU Softball Complex.

The All-Skills Camp will be led by head coach David Deiros, with assistant coach Alycia Bachkora, volunteer assistant coach Lizi Riley and members of the 2015 squad assisting with instruction.

No previous softball experience is necessary to attend the camp.

Organizers say the camp will provide well-rounded instruction of the game with an enjoyable and rewarding experience for each camper. The camper-to-instructor ratio will be kept low in order to provide the best possible instruction and attention to each camper.

The All-Skills Camp will teach the fundamentals of all aspects of the game: throwing, catching, hitting, slapping, bunting, baserunning, etc. The camp will develop proper mechanics as well as situational thinking and will work at each player’s specific position.

The cost of the camp is $180 for three hours of instruction for three days. The registration deadline for camp is July 1, with a $10 fee for late registration. A 10 percent discount will apply to any team attending with four or more players and for any siblings attending together.

The founding father of FGCU softball, Deiros is in his 13th season as head coach. Hired in 2001 to build the program from the dirt up, Deiros has since guided the Eagles to 11 seasons with a winning record, eight campaigns with 35+ wins and a win percentage of .680 (512-242-3). The 2014 Eagles finished with a 33-26-1 and wins over SEC, Big 10, Big East, and ACC opponents.
