Tritons walk over Knights 7-6

Mariner edged North Fort Myers 7-6 Friday night by coming back from three runs down in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off with the victory.

North opened a 4-0 lead through four innings, but the Tritons struck for three in the fifth to close the gap. North grabbed a 6-3 lead in the top of the seventh only to have the Tritons rally in their final at-bat.

Reliever Mason Eicher (2-0) tossed the final two innings, surrendering two earned runs while striking out three to earn the win. Christian Velez went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Steven Grigiski added two hits with an RBI. Nick Lamoreux added two hits with an RBI., including driving in the tying run with a hit in the seventh.

With runners at second and third and one out, Nick Gallant walked on a wild pitch that allowed pinch-runner Anthony Lopez to score the game-winning run.

The Tritons (13-8) play Canterbury on Monday in the Battle of the Border tournament at Terry Park.

Oasis 12, Imagine 7: Baylee Smith pitched 5 2/3 innings in relief last Friday and the Sharks’ bats sprayed 14 hits in a victory at Imagine School.

Josh Morales led the pack with four hits. Kevin Newton collected three hits while Nick Oliveira, Joe Mikulus and Zavier Bravo added two hits apiece. Bravo finished with four RBI.

The Sharks (12-7) cruised after plating four runs in the third inning to grab a lead they never relinquished.

Softball

Cape Coral 18, East Lee County 0: Four Seahawks came through with two hits apiece Friday to lead Cape’s three-inning rout of East Lee County in the first round of the Cape Coral-Mariner Invitational.

Makenzie Buss (15-5) pitched a perfect game and struck out five on the nine batters she faced to pick up the win. She also contributed two hits with a triple, a home run and four RBI.

Kerry McLaughlin had two hits including a three-run homer. Heather Dubai drove in two runs with two hits and Alison Slaughter drove in three runs with two hits, including a double.

The Seahawks (17-5) take on Ida Baker Saturday morning in the second round and an undetermined opponent in the final round.

Mariner 4, St. John Neumann 2: Mariner jump out in front early and held on to beat St. John Neumann Friday in the first round of the Cape Coral-Mariner Invitational.

Jasmine O’Neill had two hits with one RBI and scored a run in the victory. Kaylyn Friday (8-10) earned the win with just two strikeouts.

The Tritons (8-13) take on Island Coast Saturday morning in the second round and an undetermined opponent in the final round.
