Seahawks trim Gators 4-3
Bailey Wilson had three base hits to highlight Cape Coral’s 4-3 win over Island Coast Thursday night.
Matt McDade contributed two hits, both doubles. The Seahawks broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth inning to open their lead to 4-1. The Gators closed the final gap with a pair of runs in the seventh inning.
Kyle Arjona (5-0) earned the win for the Seahawks by striking out six batters.
The Seahawks (10-3) host city rival Mariner on Friday. The Gators (5-6) host Venice on Tuesday.
Softball
Cape Coral 14, Island Coast 4: Makenzie Buss clubbed a two-run homer and scored three runs to help Cape Coal rout Island Coast Thursday night.
Danielle Smith added two hits for the Seahawks, including a double, and Carly Vilardi pitched in relief of Buss (10-3). The Seahawks (11-3) host Mariner on Friday.
North Fort Myers 10, DeSoto County 2: Maddie White gave up two runs early, but North Fort Myers rallied behind reliever Mackenzie Peterson to claim a victory Thursday night over DeSoto County.
Peterson (9-1) tossed five innings, striking out six and allowing two hits. The Red Knights took the lead for good with a run in the fourth inning and tacked on seven in the sixth to seal the win.
Natavia Ellis had the key hit, a three-run homer, while Shelby Coyne added two hits, including a triple, and Marion Reed three hits. Sajarie Jones contributed a pair of RBI.
The Knights (11-1) play at Port Charlotte on Tuesday.
Oasis 6, Gateway Charter 5: Adrianna Thibault came through with a game-winning single with the bases loaded and two out in the seventh inning Thursday night to give Oasis its first victory over Gateway Charter.
Winning pitcher Abby Bryant (5-7) struck out five and allowed just four hits for the Sharks. Kayla Morfis led the offense with four hits, including a double and a triple, and one RBI. Daria Aho added two hits.
The Sharks (6-9) host Seacrest on Monday.
