Island Coast overcomes Lemon Bay

5 min read

Island Coast dug itself out of an early hole to pull out a 6-2 victory Tuesday at Lemon Bay.

Four base hits off winning pitcher Forrest Theune in the first inning put the Gators behind, but Theune (3-2) settled down and tossed six innings with six strikeouts to earn the win.

Cade Macalouso led the Gators with three base hits and four RBI, including driving in the winning run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth.

The Gators (5-4) play at North Port on Wednesday.

Mariner 21, Immokalee 1: Mariner broke out on top 5-0 in the first inning, but was unable to put Immokalee away until the seventh inning when they tallied 11 runs to rout the Indians Tuesday night.

Tim Watters (3-2) was credited with the victory, but the real damage was done by the trio of Brandon Feehery, Dante Ciminati and Logan Hanick at the plate. Each drove in three runs, but Feehery also had three hits and scored four times. Ciminati collected four hits, including a pair of doubles, and scored five runs. Hanick had two hits.

The Tritons (6-5) host Ida Baker on Wednesday.

Golden Gate 5, Cape Coral 2: Two runs in the third inning and two more in the sixth lifted Golden Gate to victory over Cape Coral Tuesday night.

Josh Feliciano (2-1) was tagged with the defeat on the mound for the Seahawks. Shane McClanahan led the team with two hits and a pair of RBI. Bailey Wilson contributed a triple and Hunter Bontrager added a double.

The Seahawks (9-3) host Island Coast on Thursday.

Bishop Verot 3, Oasis 1: A three-run home run by Rich Mizza in the third inning was the deciding blow handing Bishop Verot a victory Tuesday night that snapped Oasis’ eight-game winning streak.

The dinger made a loser of pitcher Josh Morales (1-1), who allowed just the one hit in 4 2/3 innings of work with five strikeouts. The blast erased the Sharks’ 1-0 lead gained in the top of the inning.

Baylee Smith and Morales had the Sharks’ only hits in the game. Their run scored on a wild pitch. The Sharks (9-3, 2-1 district) play at Gateway Charter on Thursday.
