Oasis pulls out 6-4 victory
Josh Morales delivered what proved to be the game-winning RBI with a single in the fourth inning Monday night, breaking a 4-4 tie and earning Oasis a 6-4 victory at First Baptist Academy.
After a shaky start, Keaton Bailey (2-0) came on in the third inning in relief to shut down First Baptist for 2 2/3 innings, surrendering one hit while striking out three, to earn the win. Austin Brock picked up the save with two scoreless innings and two strikeouts. Each team managed just three base hits.
The Sharks (6-2) host Gateway Charter on Tuesday.
Softball
Mariner 11, Island Coast 9: Lindsey Nelson’s RBI triple enabled Mariner to claim a victory Monday night over city rival Island Coast.
The Tritons took advantage of eight walks, five Island Coast errors and four hit batters to score 11 runs on just four base hits. They put together two rallies to score four runs in the second inning and six in the third.
Kalyn Friday (3-5) struck out five while allowing eight earned runs on 15 hits. The Tritons (3-6) play at Golden Gate on Tuesday.

Wrestling
District 2A-11: Island Coast will send seven wrestlers to the Region 2A-3 tournament Friday and Saturday at Charlotte High as a result of the host Gators’ fourth-place finish last Friday. Baker will send five to regionals, North Fort Myers four and Cape Coral qualified two.
Riverdale claimed the district title by a narrow margin over Charlotte with Fort Myers placing third.
The Gators came away with one district champion in Joe Retherford at 113 pounds. Mike Sorrentino claimed second at 152 while Dario Labrada (132) and Frank McNeal (145) each placed third. Joey Perez (126), Emerson Nein (138) and Antonio Defaira (220) placed fourth.
Baker also claimed one district title by Nick Richards (160). Drew Fay (120) took second, Mike Rodriguez (220) third, and Brandon Caride (113) and Cristian Marzullo placed fourth.
North Fort Myers qualified four without winning an individual title. Deyrel Diaz (182) and Brandon Nesta (195) each placed second while Joey Ciganek (138) took third and Peter Joseph (106) took fourth.
Cape Coral’s Giovanni Alvarez (132) and Jorge Cisneros (185) both placed fourth.
District 1A-12: Mariner placed third behind tournament host Lely and runner-up Dunbar last Saturday. Oasis placed eighth in the 11-team district and qualified three wrestlers for the Region 1A-3 meet Friday and Saturday at Teneroc High in Lakeland.
Mariner qualified five wrestlers for regional and claimed two district titles. Keaton Koselke (138) and Ashton Plourde (145) came away as division champs while Jake Burger (162) took second. Gianni Dottolico (120) and Kelvin Gonzalez (126).
All three of Oasis’ regional bound wrestlers placed third at district – Josh Childs (106), Pedro Tucker (152) and Cameron Burgess (182).
