Peterson’s no-hitter fuels North victory
Mackenzie Peterson tossed a no-hitter with four strikeouts Monday night to lead North Fort Myers’ 16-4 four-inning victory over Lehigh.
Shelby Coyne drove in three runs with a pair of hits, including a triple, while Sajarie Jones and Summer Ackerson (3 hits) smacked inside-the-par home runs. Marion Reed and Katelyn Kelly added two hits apiece.
North established the tenor of the game by scoring five runs in the first inning and finished off the mercy-rule win with seven runs in the fourth inning.
North plays at Mariner on Thursday.
Baseball
Cypress Lake 7, North Fort Myers 5: Junior Sammy Mieses (2-for-2) cracked a three-run home run in the sixth inning Monday night to tie the game at 4-4 only to have Cypress Lake strike back with three runs in the seventh inning to win it.
Tyler Russo took the loss with three innings of relief work, striking out three and allowing just one base hit. The Red Knights (2-4) trailed until Mieses’ homer and another run in the sixth put them ahead 5-4.
The Knights host Island Coast on Friday.
